MACK AND KATE’S CAFE (Franklin, Nashville, TN)

Mack and Kate's on Urbanspoon

We went to check out MacK and Kate’s (yes, the capitalization is intentional) for brunch, and couldn’t have been more satisfied with what we found.

M&K recently moved into the Camden Commons Center at the intersection of Moores Lane and Franklin Road (near Sopapillas, the best Mexican south of Nashville). The restaurant is small but cozy and the decor is really nice. The old wood behind the bar was stunning, and my wife asked me more than once if I thought the stuff around the restaurant was for sale — apparently, she would like it if our house looked the same as the restaurant.

We went for brunch with out-of-town guests. Wife ordered a Bellini and I ordered a “Miller’s Punch”, which was pineapple vodka, grenadine, and cranberry juice. Both cocktails were very, very good.

I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict (poached eggs on crab cakes and hollandaise sauce) and my wife got the Brioche French Toast. Both were absolutely phenomenal. The crab cakes were a bit gamey, but the sauce and runniness of the egg counteracted it very well. The French Toast was perfectly cooked and was great. Both came with fresh fruit and the Benedict came with potatoes, which were very impressive.

Overall, M&K was a terrific place for brunch. I would absolutely go back, and will definitely try it for dinner on another occasion.
