I Dream of Weenie113 S. 11th St.

I Dream of Weenie has been on my bucket list since long before I moved to East Nashville. How could a hot dog stand in an old VW van NOT be on your list? Well I recently checked this one off the list, and I’m pretty sure that I’ll be back. While I Dream of Weenie doesn’t have the buns or the selection of Cori’s, or the premium hot dogs of The Dog, it has a small menu of traditional and creative hot dogs served on fresh, soft buns with good toppings, at reasonable prices (canned soft drinks are only$1 and most dogs come in between $3.50 and $5).
On this visit I was flying solo, and I went with two dogs and no side. It was a Sunday, which means that Weenie Brunch was available, but I skipped that in favor of two of their regular, everyday dogs. I settled on The Rebel Yelp and a dog with chili, slaw, mustard and onion. The Rebel Yelp features a yellow Tennessee Chow Chow relish, which is definitely different from your typical sweet pickle relish and was a delicious addition to this dog. The jalapeno peppers coupled with the relish and onion give this dog more heat than expected, and the jalapenos are the dominant flavor. The chili/slaw dog was very good, as the creamy slaw and the rich chili complement each other nicely. Both are good, fairly standard executions on these staple hot dog toppings. This dog was just what I expected, and it was good. The soft bun with the hot chili and cool slaw made for a classic, All-American hot dog.
I Dream of Weenie has several picnic tables with umbrellas on the lawn next to the stand, and BYOB is allowed, but be sure to stay on the premise. Lunch at I Dream of Weenie is a fun and tasty excursion, especially on a nice day, and there really is nothing quite like their little hot dog stand. Sure, they can’t offer the same variety or quality as Cori’s and The Dog, but this is a hot dog stand, and keeping that in mind, they deliver a tasty product and a nice experience at a reasonable price. I’m already looking forward to the next time I take an afternoon stroll to the weenie bus and looking forward to trying some of their other dogs.
